Job Purpose

The Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time LVN I to work with our ALS team and Neuromuscular team. The employee will coordinate our multidisciplinary ALS clinic, assist in the coordination of care for our ALS patients, and assist our neuromuscular team with patient care.


This LVN will be the primary coordinator for our ALS clinic. For our ALS patients, the employee will be responsible for coordinating the care with our physicians and our ALS partners, responding to patient messages, and managing our monthly ALS clinic. The employee will also work with our neuromuscular group in a clinical capacity. The employee will be responsible for responding to patient messages, working with our neuromuscular doctors on documentation and patient record management, and other general patient care.

Job Duties
  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Takes patients’ vital signs.
  • Schedules appointments, tests, and procedures for patients while coordinating with ALS and neuromuscular counterparts.
  • Collects pertinent clinical data to support the practice.
  • Communicates with patient clinical telephone calls and messages, refers and preauthorizes treatment, and provides information to patient.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks, inventories, orders, and organizes ALS and neuromuscular room supplies.
  • Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating patient information, responding to patient and physician requests, and working with the physicians to care for our patients.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
  • Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS).
  • No experience required.

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
