The Research Mission Support is excited to welcome an Executive Advisor that will directly support the Senior Vice President and Dean for Research and the strategic vision and goals of the Research Mission.


The Executive Advisor reports to the Senior Vice President and Dean of Research and leads the strategic direction, administration, and executive support for the office of the Senior Vice President and Dean of Research. The Executive Advisor also serves as a liaison for the Research Mission Support group on all matters pertaining to the Office of the Senior Vice President and Dean of Research; organizes and coordinates executive outreach and external relations efforts, and oversees special projects, which aim to accelerate and to increase the visibility of the Office of Research mission.

Job Duties

How You Make an Impact: 

The Executive Advisor will report to the Senior Vice President and Dean of Research and lead the strategic direction, administration, and executive support for the office. 

•    The Advisor also organizes and coordinates executive outreach and external relations efforts, and will oversee special projects, which aim to advance the research mission and support the acceleration of research by developing rapport and building relationships with senior leaders and executives across Baylor College of Medicine, the Texas Medical Center, and other external stakeholders. 

You'll also:
•    Enhance special research and college-wide programs and projects and mission-wide programs, initiatives, and implementation plans, in coordination with the Senior Vice President and other senior administrators within the Research Mission; Coordinate, oversee, and track current and ongoing Research Mission projects and tasks. Follow up on issues and concerns addressed to the Senior Vice President, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature. 

•    Lead the development of mission information, materials, and reports for use in discussions and meetings with executive staff members, mission-wide committees, task forces, and outside individuals; compose and finalize complex correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, presentations, and other-format documents.

•    Develop, manage, and lead the cadence of mission-wide staff events, meetings, and training, including training programs, staff programs, and staff challenges, to increase engagement of mission staff.

•    Lead and manage college-wide events, seminars, workshops, and external guest visitors hosted by the Senior Vice President. 

•    With the Baylor College of Medicine Communications department, develop all marketing materials and official presentations for the Senior Vice President.

•    Serve as the administrative liaison to the field, respond to requests from internal and external constituents, and coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.

•    Assist the Senior Vice President and other senior staff with mission problem-solving.

•    Review contracts, reports, and other material and provide executive summary information to review, analyze, decision-making, draft correspondence, memoranda, and other written documentation. 

•    Serve or lead mission-wide project teams and serve on or lead mission committees.

•    Monitor budgets and reconcile expenses for the Senior Vice President's cost centers.

•    Promote Research Mission news and events with faculty and staff through routine communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (Business Administration).
  • Seven years of experience supporting special research, college-wide programs and projects.
  • Experience in higher education research.
