Summary

As a member of supply chain services leadership team, the supplier diversity leader is responsible for developing, leading, and implementing a formal supplier diversity program for the Baylor College of Medicine and aligning it with the College overall diversity and inclusion platform to bring improved competitive advantages to BCM, affiliates and partners.  This position serves as the historically underutilized business (HUB) program leader in accordance with Texas state code (TAC) 34, Texas administrative code section 20.296 and Texas government code chapter 2161 for the Baylor College of Medicine.

 

The supplier diversity lead is responsible for outreach and aligning our supplier diversity program with BCM affiliates, partners, city, state and federal stakeholders requiring diversity component reporting and development in their programs.  Federal funded grants and government funding, contracting and development are among the programs the Baylor College of Medicine participates in. Reporting to the VP, Supply Chain Services, this highly visible and engaged position will focus on initiatives in procurement, minority women business enterprises (MWBE), veteran owned, HUB owned businesses and development. These are all businesses that otherwise would not have opportunities to serve the Baylor College of Medicine through responsible sourcing, supplier development and initiatives that better the College from the supply side.

 

This position has the flexibility to work remotely two days per week and will require mobility as you work with industry and diverse constituents.

Job Duties

•    Serve as the Supplier Diversity and Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Programs coordinator for BCM supply chain services in accordance with the Texas state code (TAC) 34, Texas Administrative Code section 20.296 and Texas government code chapter 2161 which define supplier diversity requirements in the state of Texas.
•    Represent BCM to all governing agencies for communications, presentations and reporting regarding diversity spending.
•    Develop relationships with and assist BCM missions in developing supplier diversity in their procurement processes. Present supplier diversity showcase meetings, trainings, contract procedures, and reporting instructions for faculty, staff and college leadership.
•    Complete all required state, federal, customer and affiliate diversity reporting including BCM affiliate, partners, and stakeholder reporting.
•    Lead supplier diversity outreach efforts and connect with Houston Minority Business Council, National Minority Supplier Development Council, Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises, and HUB organizations.
•    Define and publish annual qualified diverse spending budget.
•    Exercise independent judgement to provide developmental, managerial, and functional support of supplier diversity initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

•    University degree in business, supply chain, operations, finance, or related field and experience in leading supplier diversity programs.
•    Operate with the highest integrity, accountability, strong analytical capacity, and ability to manage leadership-level responsibilities while serving the educational, research and clinical missions of Baylor College of Medicine.
•    Ability to demonstrate sound business judgement, influence, and advocate for systemic improvements, while remaining poised in a highly matrixed, academic medicine institution. A strong written and oral communicator, with effective presentation and networking attributes.
•    Work well and independently in undefined challenges with faculty, staff and leadership throughout College.
