Summary
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine seek an experienced and strategic Business Strategy and Development Lead to manage the strategic planning and advancement of the cardiovascular service line and surgical services at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. This position plays a key role in identifying new growth opportunities, strengthening institutional partnerships, and ensuring that strategic initiatives are data-driven, financially sustainable, and aligned with organizational priorities. The ideal candidate will bring strong business development, analytical, and organizational skills to drive operational excellence in a dynamic academic medical environment. The role is expected to partner closely with department and hospital administration, faculty, and referring providers, and as such, this should be considered an in-person role.
Job Duties
- Develop and implement strategies to expand the cardiovascular service line and surgical services across Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. This will include partnering with other departments such as: Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology. 20%
- Identify and address service gaps, referral trends, and emerging technologies to guide growth priorities. This will include identifying new clinical, research, and educational opportunities that enhance each department’s national reputation. 20%
- Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to develop targeted campaigns across all media platforms that promote clinical programs to referring providers and the public. 20%
- Provide oversight to marketing and sales team in development of content and sales strategy. 15%
- Conduct ongoing market analyses to identify growth opportunities and competitive positioning for cardiovascular and surgical services at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and with partnering community hospitals. 10%
- Develop and support partnerships with unaffiliated private practices and community organizations to enhance patient access and referral networks. 10%
- Develop reporting for key performance indicators such as volume growth, variable contribution margin, and referring provider satisfaction metrics. 5%
- Perform other job-related duties to support the strategic success of surgical services at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center as assigned.
Department-specific Requirements
- Progressive experience in healthcare strategy, business development, or service line growth, ideally within an academic medical center or large integrated health system.
- Proven success in leading cross-functional strategic initiatives that resulted in measurable growth or operational improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with physicians, hospital leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with marketing and outreach strategies tailored to healthcare audiences, including digital campaigns and provider engagement.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and CRM systems (e.g., Tableau, Salesforce, Epic).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Six years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
- Experience working with cardiovascular and/or surgical service lines, including knowledge of clinical workflows, referral patterns, and market dynamics.
