Provides responsible technical assistance in support of a research project by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to microbiology and genetics. Primary tasks include preparing bacterial growth media, chemical solutions, and glassware for use by others in the lab. The applicant should be well-organized, conscientious, and able to adapt to continuously changing work demands.

Job Duties

  • Performs regular inventory of growth media, chemical solutions, and lab consumables.
  • Prepares growth media and chemical solutions according to provided recipes.
  • Collects, washes, and sterilizes glassware.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance procedures for lab equipment.
  • Maintains a well-organized lab kitchen.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a basic science may be considered in lieu of the required experience
  • Good organization and time management
  • Ability to perform basic calculations (dilutions, scaling up recipes, etc.)
  • Ability to follow recipes and protocols with high accuracy
  • Some lifting may be required (approximately 10-15 lbs)
