Summary

The Laboratory Technician II position coordinates day to day activities of human specimen collection and distribution protocols. Many of these duties will include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. Coordinates with pathology and surgical staff to collect tissue, blood, and other bodily materials. Responsibilities also entail ensuring accurate data collection, documentation, organization, and safety of research participants. 

Job Duties

  • Performs histological procedures on tissue following standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures proper processing and preservation of human specimen.
  • Performs histological preparations from human and animal specimen, that includes grossing and processing tissues, paraffin embedding, tissue sectioning and staining.
  • Transports biological specimens to and from laboratory. 
  • Maintains laboratory records and prepares routine and special reports for customers.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the laboratory work area and equipment.
  • Ensures that adequate supplies are always present.
  • Interacts professionally with customers in person and by phone.
  • Conducts participant interviews as directed and obtains informed consent for research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree as Histotechnician or 2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with computer spreadsheets and database navigation. 
  • Demonstrates laboratory skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred. 
  • Exhibits professional interpersonal relationships with coworkers, customers and research study participants.
