Summary
The Yong Li Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine is searching for a highly motivated and talented candidate to work on Cancer Biology and Therapy. The laboratory technician will work under the supervision of Dr. Yong Li and other senior members to study genetic and environmental etiological factors in cancer. Technician will be performing lab maintenance, basic cell culture work, and will be assisting in maintaining the mouse colony. This position is an entry level technician position, and will be managed by the PI and directly supervised and trained by the assistant laboratory director. The technician will also work with senior research staff (5 post-docs, 1 instructor, 1 laboratory technician) as deemed applicable.
Job Duties
- Ensures laboratory tools and surfaces that includes glassware and metal instruments, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to maintain a sterile environment.
- Performs laboratory tests and experiments adhering to established protocols, ensuring consistency and reliability in experimental setups.
- Assists the assistant laboratory director in managing mouse colonies and health checks of animals.
- Monitors and maintains laboratory inventory levels, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment to prevent disruptions in research activities.
- Orders necessary laboratory materials, coordinates with vendors to ensure timely delivery and cost-effectiveness.
- Assists in gathering data during experiments and maintaining accurate records, including entering data into research databases, to support reproducibility and analysis.
- Cultivates and sustains cell cultures under optimal conditions. Ensures accurate and organized documentation to support ongoing research activities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- One year of relevant experience.
