Salary Range:  $26,740 - $31,459
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The lab is seeking a motivated individual to work in a laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute focused on modeling human diseases in fruit flies.  The technician will assist in developing fruit flies stocks of homologs of human diseases and will be involved in creating transgenes. The technician be organized and detail orientated, has good communication skills and likes to work as part of a big team with day to day communication with supervisors. Training will be provided as needed. 

Job Duties

  • Generates reagents to model human diseases in flies in the context of a large team of technicians.
  • Creates transgenic stocks for the fly community.
  • Performs data entry and maintains records.
  • Conducts maintenance of fly stocks and flies husbandry.
  • Assesses the need of supplies and places orders when needed.
  • Assists in producing fly food.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be organized and detail orientated, has good communication skills and likes to work as part of a big team with day to day communication with supervisors.
