Job Title:  Laboratory Manager

Salary Range:  $57,320 - $67,435
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Laboratory Manager will be supervising and maintaining the research operation within the laboratory. A major focus of the position will be the general maintenance and operation of laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment, as well as troubleshooting any equipments and protocols as needed.

Job Duties

  • Provide strategic oversight of daily laboratory operations, ensuring organizational efficiency, safety, and operational readiness of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Coordinate laboratory schedules and logistics, including research activities, shared equipment use, lab meetings, retreats, and visits from collaborators, trainees, or external guests.
  • Support ongoing research programs by organizing and maintaining laboratory materials, reagents, and supplies, including coordination with affiliated hospital or clinical sites when required.
  • Lead the development, writing, implementation, and periodic revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), experimental protocols, and laboratory manuals, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate shipment, receipt, tracking, and documentation of biological specimens and research materials for internal and external collaborators in compliance with biosafety and shipping regulations.
  • Prepare, calibrate, validate, and maintain laboratory equipment; provide training and guidance to users on proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee laboratory data organization, inventory systems, and record management using scientific software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or related tools.
  • Arrange preventative maintenance and vendor service contracts; troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs when appropriate.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with institutional policies, biosafety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements; may serve in the role of Laboratory Biosafety Officer or safety liaison.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory policies related to safe facility and equipment use, quality assurance practices, validation of laboratory procedures, sample tracking programs, and documentation control.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with faculty, research staff, institutional departments, clinical partners, and external vendors to support laboratory and research objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
