Summary

The St-Pierre Lab is seeking a motivated, resourceful, and talented scientist to join our team for a minimum of three years (ideally longer). This unique position combines lab management with research support in a cutting-edge neuroscience lab focused on developing fluorescent biosensors and light-gated ion channels to image and control neural activity with high precision.

Role Overview:
•    ~25% Lab Management: Oversee on-site operations, maintain infrastructure, ensure compliance, and support day-to-day research activities. You will complement our part-time remote lab manager, who handles off-site tasks such as ordering, budgeting, and scheduling.
•    ~75% Research Support: Provide expertise in gene cloning and mammalian cell culture to advance our research projects. There is also an optional opportunity to lead an independent project, depending on your skills and interests.

This role is ideal for someone with strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced research environment.

Job Duties

Lab Management (~25%)
•    Coordinate distribution of lab-generated reagents (e.g., viruses, plasmids) to collaborators.
•    Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory safety guidelines.
•    Implement workflow improvements and communicate updates to the team.
•    Oversee onboarding/offboarding of lab personnel, including training and documentation.
•    Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs or servicing as needed.

Research Support (~75%)
•    Perform mammalian cell culture (thawing, freezing, seeding, transfection).
•    Conduct molecular cloning into plasmids.
•    Candidates with electrophysiology expertise may support related experiments instead of cell culture/cloning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or in a related field.
  • Strong experience with two out of: cell culture, cloning, and electrophysiology.
  • Please submit a recent CV and the contact information for three references who can attest to your accomplishments and potential as a lab manager.
    • At least one of the references should be from faculty/group leaders.
    • A short cover letter or paragraph explaining your interest in the position would be helpful but is not required.
