Summary

The lab is seeking self-motivated individual to work in a laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan NRI focused on the underlying genetics and molecular mechanisms of genetic neurological disorders. Laboratory Helper will assist in molecular biology and in vivo studies.

Job Duties

  • Assists in molecular biology techniques and experiments that includes RT-PCR, RNA and protein isolation, western blotting, cloning, and cell-culture work. 
  • Maintains mouse colonies that includes genotyping the mice via PCR, mouse behavior, setting up breeding cages. 
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular experiment.
  • Documents results of experiments in lab notebook.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Assists in day-to-day lab activities (make buffers, aliquot reagents and order and manage general lab supplies).
  • Maintains induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) cultures, and to differentiate and maintain iPSC-derived neuron cultures and have be an opportunity to be trained to passage.
  • Attends departmental seminars, attends weekly lab meetings/journal club meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree is a plus.
