Title:  Laboratory Animal Technician II

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, provides skilled care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner. Primary working areas include standard housing areas as well as specialized areas including, but not limited to, non-human primate housing areas, bio-hazardous areas, and animal colonies requiring specialized procedures.

Job Duties
  • Feeds and waters animals.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Maintains accurate animal health records.
  • Conducts daily animal health checks.
  • Performs daily animal census.
  • Applies permanent identification devices.
  • Ensures that activities are in compliance with AAALAC standards.
  • Orders and transports laboratory supplies and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).  Certification must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion.
