Job Purpose

This is a position available in the Baylor Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Project Production and Phenotyping group. A successful candidate will perform routine animal care techniques using standard laboratory procedures and genetically modified mice. Primary working areas include standard housing areas as well as specialized areas. The candidate will provide skilled care and mouse husbandry of laboratory animals in a safe and responsible manner, including but not limited to: mouse husbandry; survival and terminal mouse procedures; and data entry into a research database. Must have research small animal handling experience, and be meticulous.

Job Duties
  • Feeds and waters animals.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Maintains accurate animal health records.
  • Conducts daily animal health checks.
  • Performs daily animal census.
  • Applies permanent identification devices.
  • Ensures that activities are in compliance with AAALAC standards.
  • Orders and transports laboratory supplies and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).  Certification must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion.
