Title: Laboratory Animal Technician II
Summary
Under minimal supervision, provides skilled care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner. Primary working areas include standard housing areas as well as specialized areas including but not limited to: non-human primate housing areas, biohazardous areas, animal colonies requiring specialized procedures.
Job Duties
- Conducts daily health checks and feeds and waters animals.
- Changes cages as scheduled and sanitizes housing areas.
- Maintains accurate colony records.
- Performs technical procedures such as: permanent animal identification, animal restraint and tissue biopsies.
- Receives animals into and transfers animals out of animal facility. Records and maintains extensive, accurate records for transfer activities.
- Establishes breeding cages and weans juvenile animals.
- Receives, processes and fulfills internal purchase order request.
- Coordinates with Primary Investigators and other staff to maintain colonies and achieve scientific objectives.
- Communicates directly with stakeholders to convey detailed information and accurately achieve directives.
- Provide routine husbandry and other job related duties as assigned.
- Detailed record keeping and log documentation.
- Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Excel, Word)
