The International Services Associate facilitates the legal admission of international students, scholars, trainees, faculty and visitors to the United States to participate in research, education, and clinical service programs in conjunction with the needs of the College and government regulations. The position provides visa clearances for all non-U.S. citizens invited, appointed or hired by the College. This position also provides support and resources to help all non-U.S. citizens maintain and comply with their immigration status.

Job Duties

  • Advises and assists international students, scholars, trainees, faculty and visitors in obtaining and maintaining U.S. non-immigrant status and USCIS work authorization in conjunction with BCM policy and procedure, from prior to hiring to the termination of their activities with the College.
  • Reviews, analyzes, interprets and applies constantly changing federal rules/regulations, policies and practices.
  • Serves as Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for Baylor's F-1 and J-1 SEVIS program.
  • Prepares immigration forms and correspondence and files applications with the appropriate governmental agencies (USCIS, DOS, DOL, etc.).
  • Counsels departments on non-immigration and immigration issues, and on BCM policies and procedures.
  • Conducts one-on-one or group orientations with non-immigrant visa holders.
  • Manages a caseload and maintains up-to-date data using multiple reporting systems. 
  • Responds to questions and issues via phone, email, and in person.
  • On/Offboards all non-U.S. citizens in the College.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with 3-5 years of professional work experience in the area of immigration, SEVIS, and/or international student/scholar advising.


  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. lawful permanent resident to serve as a SEVIS designated officer.
