Job Title:  Intern/Aide
Division:  Center for Gene Therapy
Work Arrangement:  Onsite only
Location:  Houston, TX
Salary Range:  $7.25 - $15 per hour
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Intern will receive hands-on experience in order to improve technical skills in basic biological science in a research lab setting.

 

The Intern will be involved in a research project to further understand learning and memory functions of the mouse brain by reading existing literature. The Intern will become technically proficient in mice handling, tissue harvesting, sectioning and fluorescence microscopy, and will understand data analysis using technical software to prepare figures for publication. 

Job Duties

  • Performs entry level administrative or laboratory duties.
  • Observes tasks related to field of study or career interest.
  • Regularly records documentation of experimental findings in lab notebook.
  • Performs genotyping, colony management and tissue collection in mice.
  • Assists in tissue processing with imaging and data analysis.
  • Assists with special projects/programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student pursuing biological science with an interest in neuroscience, cancer biology, or developmental biology.
  • Aspiration to pursue a career in biomedical sciences.
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology principles and current technologies used in common lab settings.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft word and excel.
