Summary

The Summer 2026 Intern/Aide in the Neurology department at Baylor College of Medicine will support ongoing research initiatives and gain hands-on exposure to basic and translational neuroscience. This internship is designed for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Neuroscience, Genetics, Biological Sciences, or those on a pre-medical track who are interested in advancing their knowledge of neurological research and clinical applications. Interns will assist with laboratory tasks, data collection, and general research support under the guidance of faculty and research staff. Responsibilities may include preparing materials, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to research projects focused on neurological function and disease. Qualified candidates are expected to have completed foundational coursework in biology, chemistry, and cell and molecular biology to support their training experience. While prior laboratory or research experience is preferred, it is not required. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a collaborative academic research environment. This internship offers valuable exposure to scientific methods, research best practices, and mentorship opportunities, providing a strong foundation for future careers in medicine, research, or healthcare.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.  

Job Duties

  • Performs entry level administrative or laboratory duties.
  • May observe tasks related to field of study or career interest.
  • May assists with special projects/programs. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major in Neuroscience, Genetic, or Biological Science disciplines, or on the pre-med track.
  • Previous lab research experience either from their college courses or from independent lab experience.
  • Completion of basic biology courses (biology, chemistry, cell and molecular bio etc.) to complement their training experience for their summer research.
