Summary
During this internship, the intern will receive training in numerous molecular biology techniques (mammalian cell culture, western blot, immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, etc.) and the chance to utilize these techniques on an independently-led project studying the role of SF3B1 cancer mutations in the development of breast cancer.
Job Purpose
Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.
Job Duties
- Design and conducts scientific experiments using common molecular biology techniques.
- Analyzes and troubleshoots the results of these experiments.
- Meets on a semi-weekly basis with senior scientists to review results and get feedback.
- Maintains a careful record of all results and the specific methods used for each experiment.
- Summarizes important results and present at monthly lab meetings.
- Prepares formal presentations for scientific conferences and meetings with external collaborators.
- Assists with the preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals related to this project.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate (or equivalent secondary education) or enrolled in an institution of higher education.
