Summary

he Intern/Aide will support the School Program within the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center during the summer internship term. This role provides hands-on exposure to patient- and family-centered educational services in a pediatric healthcare environment. The intern will assist with administrative, organizational, and programmatic activities, contribute to special events such as Back to School initiatives, and help ensure that educational resources and supplies are accessible to patients, families, and staff. The position is designed to foster learning, compassion, and engagement with children of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds while building foundational skills in program support and healthcare education services.

Job Duties

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the School Program and preparation for Back to School events
  • Organize tutoring materials and curricula to support continuity of education for students receiving treatment
  • Create and design flyers for educational events, workshops, and programming
  • Develop and update an educational resource guide, including QR codes and hyperlinks for easy access
  • Create and maintain school screening intake forms using Microsoft Word
  • Assemble hospital school enrollment and discharge folders with required documentation and resources
  • Support hospital deliveries of educational materials, school supplies, and donated items to departments and families
  • Organize and maintain educational supplies for students, families, and staff
  • Communicate professionally with staff, patients, siblings, and families
  • Participate in patient and family events
  • Clean, organize, and store program supplies as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current high school student, or college student (undergraduate or graduate preferred)
  • Strong organizational and general administrative skills
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word
  • Interest in pediatric healthcare, education, or patient/family engagement
  • Ability to relate to children of various ages and cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and compassion
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and families in a healthcare setting
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
