Job Title:  Intern/Aide - Part-time

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The intern will receive supervised training in basic biomedical research practices within within the Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) at Baylor College of Medicine. Training will include instruction in research data organization and entry, basic data quality checks, laboratory safety procedures, and introductory laboratory techniques under the supervision of CTRID staff. The intern will also gain exposure to the research process through participation in CTRID lab meetings and seminars focused on translational research methods and scientific topics. This is a part-time position, 19hours/week. 

Job Duties

  • Develops foundational skills in biomedical research data management and organization.
  • Gains exposure to laboratory research methods and standard laboratory procedures in a supervised academic research setting.
  • Builds professional skills in scientific communication, teamwork, and research documentation.
  • Assists research staff with organizing and entering research data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Performs basic data verification and quality checks under supervision.
  • Provides administrative support for research activities that includes organizing files and preparing materials for meetings.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures under supervision, including sample preparation and setup or cleanup for experiments.
  • Helps maintain laboratory organization by stocking supplies, labeling materials, and maintaining work areas according to safety guidelines.
  • Attends research seminars or lab meetings to gain exposure to research methods and scientific topics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in biomedical sciences, biology, chemistry, public health, or related fields.
  • Prior coursework or exposure to laboratory or research environments is beneficial.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while following established research and laboratory safety protocols.
