Summary
The Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is looking to hire a reliable and organized student intern. The Intern/aide will primarily support Dr. Maya Balakrishnan's research mission. The team researches behavioral patterns and disease determinants among patients with chronic liver disease. The position is currently part-time at 16 hours/week, with the opportunity to grow. This position is a good match for students interested in psychology, social sciences, public health, or medicine as a long term career goal. Primary duties will include data collection, entry, and storage; recruiting and consenting patients into studies; assisting with study procedures; carrying out literature reviews; qualitative interviewing, transcription, and preliminary interview coding; performing other duties as assigned.
Education objectives of the internship:
1. Learns basic principles of clinical research.
2. Learns how to recruit and enroll participants into clinical research studies.
3. Learns data management.
4. Exposure to qualitative research.
Job Duties
- Studies patient recruitment, reviews chart, patient screening, education patients about studies, consenting patients to studies.
- Manages data collection (surveys, interviews), entry, and storage.
- Conducts research project discussion, planning, data recording, and presentation.
- Assists with literature reviews.
- Assists with qualitative research - by conducting, transcribing, and analyzing qualitative interviews.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of the first two year undergraduate studies.
- Spanish fluency (both written and spoken).
- Familiarity with microsoft excel.
