Job Purpose

Provides advanced patient care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Job Duties

• Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
• Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
• Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
• Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
• Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
• Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
• Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
• Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Office-Based Urologic Procedures and Clinical Responsibilities:

• Perform flexible cystoscopy and related office-based urologic procedures within scope of practice and departmental protocols.
• Perform catheter insertions, exchanges, and management of difficult catheter placements.
• Conduct voiding trials, manage urinary retention, and perform diagnostic evaluations including uroflowmetry and post-void residual measurements.
• Assist with and perform additional urologic procedures as approved by departmental leadership and supervising physicians.
• Evaluate procedural outcomes and provide appropriate post-procedure management and follow-up care.

Additional Clinical Duties:

• Conduct independent urology clinic visits, including new patient evaluations and follow-up appointments.
• Participate in prostate cancer surveillance and treatment pathways.
• Support management of procedural clinics, including Artemis fusion biopsies, cystoscopy clinics, and other specialty services.
• Assist with provider coverage and patient access initiatives across the Department of Urology.
• Perform additional clinical and procedural duties consistent with licensure, training, competency validation, and departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• For Nurse Practitioners: Master’s degree in Nursing.  Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN)
• For Physician Assistant: Master’s degree in physician assistant studies. NOTE: Bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.

Certification/Licenses/Registration:

• For Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
• For Nurse Practitioners: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
