Summary

Baylor College of Medicine, is seeking an exceptional and experienced Physician Assistant for service in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Houston, Texas Medical Center.

Job Purpose

Our collaboration with Baylor's Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and Harris Health offers patients a unique academic care environment in Houston and South Texas because of the collaboration between disease site specialists including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, as well as pathologists and radiologists. This team approach is critical to our mission to offer the best care possible and the latest clinical trials.

 

The Physician Assistant works in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologists to provide comprehensive care for their patients. The PA is responsible for the following tasks: patient evaluation, completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results, prescribe pharmaceutical medications, provide 1st or 2nd assist on brachytherapy procedures if desired, providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, and developing and implementing patient treatment plans.

Job Responsibilities
  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

•             Excellent communication skills

•             Demonstrated leadership ability

•             Proficiency with electronic medical records

•             At least 1-3 years of experience preferred but not required

 

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

•             Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Master of Science in Nursing

•             BLS / ACLS certification required

•             Strong verbal and written communication skills

•             Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board

 

Candidate must meet Baylor College of Medicine Education / Training requirements for APRN or PA.
