Title: Instructor - Physician Assistant (Cardiology)
Summary
Baylor College of Medicine at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio is seeking an Advance Practice Provider to fill a full-time position in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Cardiology. This position comes with a faculty appointment within the Department of Pediatrics, a competitive salary, and full benefits package. The rank of the appointment will be determined by the candidates credentials and prior experience.
Job Duties
- Performs comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams. Formulate and administer appropriate treatment plans.
- Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising physician or other health care professionals.
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests within the scope of practice.
- Follows established protocols, when applicable, to manage specific patient problems/illnesses/care in collaboration with supervising physician.
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication as may be allowed by state legislation.
- Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources.
- Maintains medical record using an electronic medical record, writes accurate notes and orders which are co-signed by supervising physician when appropriate.
- Self-directed with good organizational skills.
- Communicates and works well within a collaborative team environment.
- May supervise the work of a medical assistant, nursing students, medical students and family medicine residents where appropriate.
- Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operation and patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Verification of current RN license and APRN recognition issued by the Texas Board of Nursing;
- Verification of current and valid nationally recognized pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification;
- Current controlled substances certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA);
- Background working with children with chronic illness, and knowledge of long term medications and drug interactions; and
- Current Certifications in Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
