Job Purpose

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Job Responsibilities

-Perform psychiatric evaluations for inpatients with medical and surgical conditions at the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.

-Effectively communicate with the primary team requesting each consultation in order to convey the team's diagnostic impression and treatment recommendations.

-Provide patients and families appropriate psycho-education about their psychiatric conditions.

-Provide appropriate follow up to active patients in the Psychiatry Consultation service.

-Provide emergency crisis assessments to patients in Emergency departments affiliated with the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.

-Collaborate with on-site psychiatrist and on-call psychiatrists to provide optimal patient care, including patient sign outs for on call-physician.

-Model professional behavior and provide guidance to medical students and trainees in the service.

-Work alongside case management and social workers to provide integral care and recommendations regarding discharge planning.

-Coordinate with the consult service administrative assistant and social workers in the hospital in order to set up proper outpatient follow up for patients in the psychiatry consult service.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing with a focus in Psychiatry.

Experience:  None required.


  • Required: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Required: Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
