Summary

A licensed and credentialed NP/PA provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation and follow- up patient care under the supervision of one or more physicians in the practice of Woodlands North Houston Heart Center. The NP/PA provides age and specialty appropriate medical care at the level of training achieved conforming to the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) and the Texas Board of Medical Examiners rules and regulations as well as all federal, state or local laws, affecting the NP/PA's current area of practice.

Job Purpose

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Job Duties

  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician (Patients must be seen by the Physician at least once every 18 months, or NP/PA cannot see them more that 3 times in an 18 month period).
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with the physicians of WNHHC, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
  • Assists with assigned physician's clinic ensuring thorough preparation for clinic and maintaining patient flow during clinic.  Supervises medical assistant staff assigned to clinic. 
  • Obtains new knowledge from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or "hands-on training" and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.  Maintains competency in the management and care of cardiovascular patients.
  • Mandatory participation in weekend rounding every 6th weekend.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • Represents the physicians of Woodlands North Houston Heart Center in a competent, professional manner and consistently promotes the practice to patients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude in the workplace and is a leader in this regard. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing.
  • Experience Required: Must have a minimum of two years clinical experience in the management of cardiology patients. 
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Certification: ACLS - maintains certification every 2 years.
