The new Humanities Expression and Arts Lab (HEAL) in the School of Medicine seeks a candidate to create educational content and to provide direct teaching to learners at all levels in BCM. Under the guidance of HEAL's Executive and Assistant Directors, the instructor will teach medical humanities-related classes to medical students, residents, and faculty while also developing materials for a health communication and patient experience course.



  • Help plan and teach required courses and electives within new Medical Humanities Track for medical students
  • Develop content for and help teach communications and patient experience course
  • Research educational models in communication and apply to medical educational activities
  • Provide instruction on written and verbal communication in selected workshops
  • Participate in Narrative Medicine intersessions course at discretion of Executive Director
  • Identify ways to collaborate with the instructor's primary institution



This candidate must have:

  • An advanced degree in a healthcare-related field, including BSN, MSN, MD.
  • An advanced degree in an arts or humanities related field (MFA, PhD) or national recognition as an expert in the arts or humanities with a track record of published work
  • Demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in leadership and possess the ability to work with a varied group of educators and stakeholders
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to lead and work on a team
  • Commitment to teaching at all levels of BCM
