The IT Security Architect will be responsible for defining, assessing and auditing the implementing of security controls, design and architecture across the College's information technology environment, including but not limited to on-premise and cloud systems, applications and services and business partner and affiliate communications.


IT Security, within Information Security, Governance, Risk and Compliance, is focused on securing the Information Technology environment of Baylor College of Medicine and ensuring that systems, applications and practices conform with Cybersecurity laws and regulations, best practice frameworks and the College's policies, standards and procedures. This position is located at McGovern (Nabisco) on Holcombe Blvd., in the Texas Medical Center.

Job Duties

  • Provides information security expertise to design and architect secure solutions to achieve the Department's missions and goals in its clinical, education, and research missions.
  • Partners with other IT teams to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Information Security systems.
  • Participates in recurring architectural review, demand management and project meetings to provide a risk lens on proposed initiatives.  
  • Partners with Risk Owners to develop risk mitigation strategies for pending risk items.
  • Conducts periodic risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and deficiencies in information technology systems, applications, processes and design. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Six years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of Information Security experience, with at least two (2) years in Security Architecture.
  • Security Certification such as CISSP or equivalent is required.
  • The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, be regarded as a team player, have strong and proven organizational skills, and have a personal drive to be their best.
  • Experience in information security system / process design and architecture is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Information Protection laws, regulations, Industry Standards and best practice frameworks; such as: HIPAA/HITECH, PCI, NIST (required), HITRUST, COBIT, FISMA, FERPA, GLBA and State Date Privacy Laws (preferred).
