Salary Range:  $79,092 - $90,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Dan L Duncan Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) provides a learning environment at Baylor College of Medicine that integrates data from diverse domains including the electronic medical record, geospatial and social information, and next generation technologies to support research, development, and implementation of new approaches to patient care. The ICTR is currently seeking an IT Infrastructure and Systems Associate to manage the development, implementation, and administration of IT infrastructure components and systems, including operating systems, networks, storage, telecommunications, identity management, and access services.

 

This position will start on September 2nd or later.

Job Duties

  • Infrastructure Management (50%): Configures, maintains, and monitors on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure to support research computing needs. Installs, upgrades, and patches operating systems, applications, and system components on schedule.
  • Software Deployment & Server Administration (30%): Deploys, integrates, and optimizes project-specific and institutional software tools. Administers web and application servers; ensures availability, performance, and security. Provides technical support to investigators and research teams for infrastructure and software usage. Provides training and documentation for users for effective use of computing resources.
  • Tool Configuration & Troubleshooting (10%): Assists with onboarding and configuration of research-specific tools and workflows. Troubleshoot system and software issues; recommends and implements solutions.
  • System Analysis & Optimization (10%): Conducts functional and performance testing to validate systems and applications. Analyzes infrastructure to improve efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience managing hybrid (on-premises and cloud-based) infrastructure, preferably in a research or academic environment.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; experience with cloud-based deployment and monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix systems administration and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Experience with server virtualization, containers (e.g., Docker), and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of research computing workflows and data-intensive applications.
  • Experience providing technical support and training to end users, particularly in academic or research settings.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator) are a plus.
