Summary
The Department of Pediatrics section of Hematology-Oncology is currently seeking a Hospitalist.
Scope of practice:
- The preferred candidate is a physician who has completed a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship. This candidate would be hired at an Assistant Professor rank. Alternately a physician who has completed a General Pediatric or Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency could be considered and would be hired at an Instructor rank.
- Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage inpatient care of Hematology/Oncology patients. Attends to patient/nursing needs on admitted inpatients as well as assists with new admissions. May also be called to Emergency Department to assess patients.
- Oversee junior level personnel including residents and advanced practice practitioners. Supervises the care they provide and provides education.
Roles include
- Approximately 8 weeks of in-house night coverage per year.
- Attending on the inpatient (daytime) service teams within the faculty attending rotation. Fellowship trained physicians only.
- Performing procedures (bone marrow aspirate/biopsy and lumbar puncture) for patients in various areas around the hospital. The General Pediatric candidate will be trained to do these procedures after hire.
- Time is built into the schedule to allow for work on scholarly activity or personal projects.
Minimum requirements
- MD or equivalent degree
- Preferred: Board certified or board eligible for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology boards
- Alternate: Board certified or board eligible for General Pediatric boards
- Prior to employment start date must obtain Texas Medical License and Drug Enforcement Administration registration
