The Global Health Fellowship is a one-year post-baccalaureate fellowship for prospective global health professionals who have completed or plan to apply to PhD or medical school and have a research focus. The fellowship is open to graduating or recently graduated Master’s students that are passionate about global health research. Fellows work with BCM’s excellent researchers and clinicians to advance the development and implementation of health research, technologies and services that aim to serve underserved communities around the world.

Job Duties

Research & Innovation: 

  • Creates and implements research surveys in foreign and domestic low-resource areas.
  • Plans, directs and conducts research studies; collects and analyzes data.
  • Develops research objectives, researches and writes grants and reports.
  • Assesses, interprets and evaluates research outcomes.
  • Prepares presentations, abstracts, progress reports and other documentation.
  • Exhibits research at scientific meetings and conferences.
  • Assists PI with writing publications and grants.
  • Follow-up with granter on submissions.
  • Creates patient/provider surveys and administers them in the field.
  • Collects and analyzes data.
  • Works with collaborators on new technology projects (AR/VR application development, MedBed, Smart Pod) 
  • Performs government and foundation grant searches, tracks potential granters in Excel, creates checklists for PI grant submissions, assists with writing grants and submission. 
  • Participates in projects focused on engineering, medicine, public health, or other areas depending on fellow expertise.

Project Management: 

  • Provides project management support for multi-discipline programs.
  • Assists with program development and marketing for events.
  • Coordinates project efforts across research and innovation divisions.
  • Works between clinical, engineering, and business personnel to all collaborators and leadership updated and projects moving forward.

Administrative & Other: 

  • Depending on qualifications may mentor students.
  • Promotes Baylor Global Health through social media, conferences, and other events.
  • Assists with training videos (script development).
  • Coordinates project and research meetings in Outlook/Zoom, creates presentations in Power Point and agendas in Word.
  • Leads project and research meetings.
  • Attends project meetings, creates lists of deliverables and timelines, and executes tasks to meet due dates and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences technology or engineering discipline or related field. 
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Biology, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent In the process of completing Master’s Degree in Public Health, Biology, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent or applying for medical school; with a research focus
  • Able to travel internationally
  • Able to work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends as necessary 
  • Research experience in an academic setting working with physicians and medical staff
  • Communicate effectively and in a professional manner, both orally and in writing, with internal and external collaborators
  • Detail oriented and able to coordinate collaborators and staff over multiple time zones to drive project studies forward
  • Research experience in data collection, analysis and translation of results through abstracts, research papers, in journals or for submission
  • Experience with computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). 
  • Clerkship/Internship from a medical school, hospital, or medical research center.
  • Experience in global health, working with community health services and health non-profit, and low resource communities a plus.
