The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine is currently recruiting one BC/BE full time clinical genetic counselor. The candidate will join a dynamic clinical practice that includes 5 MD Medical Geneticists and 3 Genetic Counselors in an academic setting providing comprehensive genetic services.


The candidate for this position will counsel individuals and families within Harris Health System and Baylor College of Medicine. Genetic counseling services are provided for adults with a broad range of genetic conditions.  These include, but are not limited to, cancer, connective tissue diseases, cardiac, and neurologic conditions.  The position will include teaching of medical students and residents at Baylor College of Medicine. There is significant opportunity for training and supervising genetic counseling students in the Baylor College of Medicine genetic counselor training program.  There are also  opportunities to participate in research, if desired.


The preferred candidate should have good communication skills and enjoy collaboration with patients and colleagues. Spanish speaking candidates preferred but not required.

Job Duties

  • Counsels patients with indications of genetic risks in pregnancy.
  • Conducts preliminary research such as; family and patient medical histories, coordination of genetic testing, and review of patient referrals.
  • Drafts and sends letter to patients summarizing the genetic counseling session. Letters are sent to the patient and referring physician.
  • Answers patient calls and assesses need for services.
  • In some cases, refers clients to appropriate agencies and physicians.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Genetics, Counseling or related field.
  • No experience required.
  • Board-eligible or Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
