Summary

The Wangler lab is seeking a Genetic Counselor team member for a rare and undiagnosed research study team.  The studies include the Community Texome project, a genomic implementation project funded by National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) leveraging exome sequencing for an underserved population in Texas.  The Brain Gene Registry is a multi-center study aimed at identifying individuals with specific genetic changes in a set of brain development genes.  The Peroxisomal consortium is a study focused on peroxisomal disorder research studies.  The Genetic counselor will provide genetic and genomic test results for patients in these studies using the standard clinical practices of genetic counseling. 

 

 

Job Duties

  • Works with a study coordinator to plan intake and consent visits. 
  • Discusses results by phone or at in person clinic visits.
  • Reviews genomic test results and performs re-analysis on genomic test results.
  • Plans the next steps, provide medically actionable information to patients. 
  • Attends all the project specific meetings, departmental seminars.  
  • At the discretion of the Principal Investigator, the counselor will participate in the Genetic Counseling training program. 
  • Collaborates with a team of study coordinators working under the Principal Investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling.
  • No experience required.
  • Board-eligible or Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of work experience.
