Job Purpose

Provide initial patient-family contact and maintain the continuity of patient rapport throughout the patient's visit. The individual serves as a key player in the front desk activity (checking-in and checking out patients) for various providers of health care services (private and research clinic). Individual is customer service oriented, experienced and knowledgeable of front desk duties for multiple payers and patients. This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse patient population and to deal with stressful situations with resourcefulness and initiative. The ability to accept training, instruction and change with a positive attitude is essential. The individual interacts with patients, employees, management, and other support and professional staff. The individual should know how to interact professionally verbally and via written correspondence. The nature of the work demands maturity, courtesy, tact, professionalism, a sense of urgency, confidentiality, technical and interpersonal technical skills. This individual will also provide general office support.

Job Duties

• Greets all incoming patients for the Center for Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention (CCDP) and The Behavioral Medicine Research Center.
• Obtains demographic, financial and insurances information; enters or updates data in EPIC for private CCDP Clinic patients occurring only on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Collects private patient copays.
• Responsible for daily reconciliation of all payments.
• May register and request ClinCard payments for research participants
• Informs patients of any visit delays.
• Answers any questions received at the front desk.
• Manages private patient appointments and may schedule follow up visits.
• Responsible for distributing patient documents and scanning documents in EPIC.
• Send new patient packets with health questionnaires, map and welcome letter.
• Confirm all private clinic appointments.
• Acts as liaison between patient, physician, and billing office regarding billing and collection issues.
• Verify patient insurance for specialty referrals.
• Acts as liaison between patient, clinical staff and physician regarding questions.
• Answers telephone and routes calls to the appropriate individual.
• Conducts initial screening of all persons calling for a new patient appointment or interest in a research study.
• Coordinate collection of medical records for new patient referrals and research patients.
• Fax/mail test results and correspondence to other MD offices as requested.
• Maintain records for off-site medical records storage and schedule pick up and retrieval of records.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
  • Required: Three years of relevant experience.
