Summary
This position is for an individual with strong financial management, financial reporting and analytical skills. The position requires a detailed working knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to master the use of financial reporting tools including SAP S4 and Power BI. The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator with the ability to communicate financial results and forecasts to stakeholders who do not have financial accounting backgrounds. This position presents an opportunity for a dynamic, detail-oriented person to join a team of administrative professionals dedicated to supporting biomedical research teams working improve human health.
Financial reporting and forecasting are a major focus of this position. The individual will perform monthly financial reviews to identify and understand variances to budget, update budget forecasts as needed, and work with the department financial team and department leadership to develop variance explanations and action plans to minimize and manage future variances.
We seek an independent person with analytical skills. While independent work is essential, the individual must be able to work as a member of a team. Communication skills are critical, and the individual must be able to explain financial data to people not trained in finance/accounting. Must also be able to engage in detailed conversations with other financial accounting professionals.
This position may be eligible to work hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 from home) within the Greater Houston, TX area.
Job Duties
- Develops and manages budgets.
- Performs financial reporting and manage labor distributions.
- Meets at least quarterly with stakeholders to explain financial results.
- Develops and maintains running 1-2-year financial forecasts on assigned accounts to inform procurement and labor force decision making.
- Reviews and approves a subset of procurement requests, travel and other reimbursement requests for compliance with accounting principles, BCM policy, and external funding agency policies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of Excel.
- Analytical and detail-oriented.
- Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced degree and/or certifications in finance.
- Formal training in financial accounting.
- Experience with financial forecasting.
