Job Title:  Financial Analyst - Department of Medicine Education Program

Salary Range:  $70,618 - $85,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Margaret M. and Albert B. Alkek Department of Medicine is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to lead financial analysis, forecasting and reporting under the direction of the Administrator for Education. The Financial Analyst supports the Department of Medicine’s education mission by providing comprehensive financial management and analysis for a $50M annual operating budget. This role is responsible for financial planning, reporting, compliance monitoring, and transactional oversight related to residency and fellowship education programs, including the allocation of trainee expenses across affiliated hospital sites.

 

Candidates will need to pass an Excel proficiency test and submit samples of prior work such as PowerPoints and reports. 

 

This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area.

Job Duties

  • Manages, analyzes, and monitors the annual education operating budget. 
  • Leads the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Develops, prepares, analyzes and/or reviews reports summarizing financial activity and communicates with leadership.
  • Reviews and approves financial transactions and entries, including shopping carts, travel requests, and financial transactions involving assigned accounts to ensure the proper allocation of expenses following BCM policy and sponsor guidelines.
  • Oversees expense and effort allocation of trainees to affiliate hospital sites.
  • Provides training for other staff and ensures entries and transactions are completed appropriately.
  • Identifies and leads process improvement initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Assists with post-award grants management as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree in a related field (MBA or MHA or equivalent).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience.
  • Experience with SAP S4 Hana, Microsoft Power BI, and other financial tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced and flexible work environment.
