Summary
Location: Ben Taub Hospital, Houston, Texas as well as affiliated clinics in the Harris Health System.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to manage a team of 10 Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs). As the Manager, you will oversee midwifery services and ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care for obstetrical and gynecological patients. Your leadership will promote excellence in clinical practice, education, and patient care coordination. You will work in close partnership with the Chief of Obstetrics at Ben Taub Hospital.
Job Duties
- Provides full-scope, evidence-based midwifery care in accordance with approved midwifery and perinatal guidelines.
- At least 70% clinical time with 30% administrative time for management and program development.
- Manages prenatal patients with traditional and Centering Pregnancy(R) group prenatal care.
- Oversees triage, labor evaluations, and management of normal labor and delivery.
- Performs third-stage labor management and perineal/vaginal repairs as needed.
- Ensures comprehensive maternal, fetal, and newborn assessment and care.
- Develops care plans, consults with physician colleagues, and makes appropriate referrals for deviations from normal or emergencies.
- Supports family-centered care, including breastfeeding promotion.
- Manages postpartum assessments, breastfeeding support, follow-up care, and referrals.
- Maintains accurate and complete patient records, ensuring compliance with Harris Health guidelines.
- Prescribes medications within the scope of delegated authority and adheres to documentation requirements.
- Participates in midwifery QA/QI activities, team meetings, and mandatory training.
- Manages team onboarding and performance, fostering professional development and collaboration.
- Ensures compliance with all mandatory licensure, certifications, and training.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's or master’s degree in Midwifery, Nursing, or a related field.
- Required: Minimum of two years' experience in full-scope midwifery practice.
- Required: Current licensing as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse-Midwife by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Required: Intention to work full-time on-site (40 hours per week).
- Required: Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
- Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
