The Division of Evaluation, Assessment, & Education Research within the BCM School of Medicine seeks an Assessment and Evaluation Data Specialist (Instructor). Candidates with appropriate credentials will be eligible for a faculty appointment at the level of Instructor.


This specialist will contribute to the ongoing implementation of processes for collecting and analyzing medical education student performance assessment data, and will create customized reports for curriculum deans, directors, and committees to monitor student performance. The specialist will also contribute to the program evaluation reporting necessary for ongoing curricular improvement. Overall, the Assessment and Evaluation Data Specialist will contribute to the division's efforts related to learner performance assessment, program evaluation, education research, and accreditation, in the context of BCM's evolving medical education curriculum.



  • Work closely with medical school colleagues - including deans, directors, faculty, and staff - in facilitating data management and analysis processes associated with student performance assessment in our evolving medical education curriculum.
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative data management, statistical analysis, and related support for performance assessment, program evaluation, and accreditation activities at BCM. This includes support of scoring and performance summary processes for longitudinal competency-oriented assessment programs, creation of customized reports to support curricular review and accreditation processes, and analysis of complex data sets for medical education research.
  • Contribute to the completion of the team's qualitative, text analysis responsibilities. This includes analyzing text-based student survey data to identify and report on emergent themes related to course improvement, and accreditation.
  • Prepare reporting and present data analysis findings as needed to medical school deans, directors, and committees.
  • Contribute to survey creation, data collection management and processing, and survey reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members of the Division of Evaluation, Assessment, & Education Research in the ongoing administration and improvement of examination, learning assessment, and program evaluation processes.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Ph.D., EdD or similar terminal degree, with significant expertise and experience in analysis of educational data.
  • At least 3 years of prior experience with one or more of the following: data science, data management, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, text analysis
  • At least 2 years of experience with IT systems used in higher education performance assessment and/or program evaluation (examples include ExamSoft, Surveymonkey, Qualtrics, E*Value, MedHub, etc.)
  • Proficiency in teamwork and coordination as part of a dynamic, diverse, collegial team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong sense of focus and attention to detail


  • Experience with student assessment processes in health professions education, or higher education
  • Experience in medical education
