Summary
Cardiac sonographers, or echocardiographers, use non-invasive cardiovascular technology equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart and blood vessel conditions. The Echocardiograph technologist should have excellent communication skills in order to convey scientific information on patient condition and diagnostics to doctors, should have good bedside manner for dealing with patients and professional attitude with Physicians, colleagues and ancillary staff. Report to Clinic Manager and include Medical Director in all technical aspects of the job.
Job Duties
- Images the heart to evaluate chamber size, valve function and blood flow.
- Reviews patient files and must be familiar with most cardiac conditions in order to recognize and identify abnormalities and alert Physicians for any life-threatening conditions.
- Explains procedures to patients.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and exam rooms clean at all times/keeps the rooms stocked with linens.
- Performs Trans-thoracic echo, stress echo, echo oncology.
- Reviews/performs the echo for different research teams and follow their protocol.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree from an accredited training program through an accredited institution.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biological science with emphasis on anatomy and physiology.
- Familiarity with EPIC and Digi Sonics system.
- Familiarity with Echo Lab Accreditation Process.
- IV insertion experience.
