Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking qualified candidates at the Associate or Full Professor levels for the position of the Division Chief of Epidemiology and Population Sciences. The new Division Chief will play a pivotal role in fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, securing research funding, and promoting innovative approaches to epidemiology and other population sciences.

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, a track record of securing extramural funding, demonstrated leadership experience, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.

 

The Division of Epidemiology and Population Sciences consists of 17 faculty members, as well as a training program that supports 6 post-doctoral fellows, and 24 staff located on the main BCM campus in the heart of the Texas Medical Center/Houston.  Research conducted in the Division includes population-oriented research, behavioral epidemiology, genomic studies, animal models of complex exposures, and translational research. 

 

The Division is one of three research Divisions in the Department of Medicine. The department boasts $117 million in yearly extramural funding including NIH, VA, DoD, and Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The funding includes the NIH's Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and Digestive Disease Research Center.  The faculty have the opportunity to collaborate with geneticists, biologists, and clinicians at Texas Children's Hospital, the Houston VA Medical Center, Baylor St. Luke's Hospital, and Ben Taub General Hospital. The Center for Precision Environmental Health Medicine and Human Genome Sequencing Center, Human Microbiome Center and the Children's Nutrition Research Center at BCM provide other important resources for collaboration.
