The Director of Grateful Patient Program will oversee the creation, implementation, and management of Baylor College of Medicine’s comprehensive grateful patient fundraising program. The goals are to operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful patient prospects and revenue, engages clinicians, administrators, volunteers and others in the grateful patient process, and assists in creating a culture of gratitude throughout the College, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) and all partners.  Working closely with the Foundations and the BCM Patient Navigation teams, the Director will drive the implementation with a focus on a set of key performance indicators, such as, number of educated clinicians, number of engaged clinicians, number of grateful patient referrals, number of visits by gift officers, number of qualified prospects, number of proposals, value of proposals, number of closed gifts, and value of closed gifts, along with other key measures. The individual will also be involved in annual fund, major gift, communication and operational projects for the program.  Reports to AVP of Strategic Initiatives and Alumni Affairs.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the project manager on the implementation and coordination of the daily operations of the grateful patient fundraising program
  • Work with Foundation leaders to assist in the implementation of the grateful patient fundraising program
  • Serve as a principle gift advisor to all gift officers assisting with the development and/or refinement of professional cultivation and solicitation strategies for grateful as well as unengaged patient prospects in an effort to raise significant funds
  • Work closely with Major Gift team members, ensuring synergy and strategic involvement, and Prospect Research team members, ensuring adequate screening and examination of potential philanthropic opportunities
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, speeches, and reports as needed to a variety of audiences to increase awareness of the program
  • Coordinate the training and educational initiatives of the program across the system
  • Collaborate with Foundation representatives and others to develop materials for the grateful patient fundraising program, especially for increasing the visibility of the program
  • Grow and manage the Patient Initiatives team of professional staff responsible for: lead generation and dissemination; report automation, patient access and navigation, education of and liaison to faculty/nurses/leadership/gift officers and strategies for the purpose of increased dollars with key focus on priority areas
  • Co-manage a small portfolio of donors as appropriate
  • Develop relationships and trust to create a closer working partnership with research, faculty, nurses and executive leadership to help all gift officers with the generation of high net-worth leads and identification of major and principle gift prospects in order to help reach individual goals and that of the office
  • Collaborate with other Development leaders and Institutional Advancement colleagues to foster the success of their respective programs
  • Create a Patient Advisory Group to effectively collaborate with the development team, advancement colleagues, concierge program, faculty and others to foster the success of our patient experience as well as respective programs
  • Enhance management and skills through professional associations and BCM leadership training
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision; effectively and efficiently organize and prioritize workload to meet constantly changing demands; high level of accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills; communicate status of projects to appropriate staff members and/or supervisors in a timely fashion

  • Collaborate with BSLMC and BCM clinical and research staff for substantive development content
  • Participate in regular Foundation meetings as directed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four to five years of experience in academic medical fundraising.
  • Membership in Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
