Summary

Baylor College of Medicine (“BCM”) seeks a Director, Fixed Assets and General Accounting for its Department of Finance (Houston, TX). Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, this position ensures overarching infrastructure (people, process and technology) meets the needs and requirements for compliant accounting organization for BCM across its academic and clinical departments. Oversees capital accounting for BCM, primarily responsible for timely management and accounting of its fixed asset and project accounting processes and policies, including project tracking, fixed asset policy and procedures, and management reporting. Manages accounting functions and activities (including around monthly close) for entire non-profit college. 

Job Duties

  • Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, ensures overarching infrastructure (people, process and technology) meets the needs and requirements for a compliant accounting organization for BCM across its academic and clinical departments.
  • Oversees capital accounting for BCM, primarily responsible for timely management and accounting of its fixed asset and project accounting processes and policies, including project tracking, fixed asset policy and procedures, and management reporting. Manages accounting functions and activities (including around monthly close) for entire non-profit college.
  • Oversees development and preparation of accounting and financial reports including federal, state and private grants, endowment and gifts, affiliated hospitals, clinical depts. plus fixed assets and payroll.
  • Ensures processes, procedures and internal controls are in place. Provides analysis of revenue and expenses for senior management. Maintains records including general ledger and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state grant reporting regulations and US GAAP reporting requirements. 
  • Oversees accounting functions including monthly close process, balance sheet reconciliations, review of departmental journal entries and variance reporting, prepaid assets, fringe benefit accounting, malpractice accounting and miscellaneous transactions.
  • Recruits, trains, manages and supervises professional accounting staff (i.e. General Accounting - 2 senior accountants, 1 accountant, 1 lead of Accounting; Fixed Assets – 1 senior accountant and 1 coordinator of accounting) tasked with maintaining books and records of BCM. 
  • Participates in ongoing design, configuration and testing of ERP system for key accounting processes. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in accounting, business, or related field (that includes coursework in Accounting, Finance and Business).
  • Minimum of 11 years of accounting experience to include 4 years of supervisory experience within an academic or healthcare setting.
