Reporting to the Executive Director, Sponsored Programs Finance (SPF), the Director is a critical team member ensuring that the overarching infrastructure (people, process and technology) meets the needs and requirements for a fully functioning and compliant Sponsored Programs Finance enterprise. Serves as the SPF lead for related systems/reports, functions such as award setup and effort certification and the design, implementation and maintenance of training programs.  This role leads the award setup, cash application and central administrative post award services teams. The Director, Research Administration serves as a subject matter expert for central post award systems and compliance matters. This role is the liaison to IT, Finance, research and external colleagues for systems, reporting and metrics. This role also serves as a key trainer for internal and external staff.


This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

Job Duties

  • Manages pre- and/or post-award grant management activities and administration.
  • Ensures financial management and accountability through budget negotiations, performing cost assessments, contract processing, monitoring financial transactions and adherence to budget, and financial reporting.
  • Serves as a liaison between investigators, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
  • Engages in strategic planning activities, including departmental research goals, annual budget, submission, research space for recruits and departmental reporting.
  • Works with regulatory staff, investigators and other stakeholders to resolve queries from regulatory agencies and other involved parties.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree. Seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive experience and expertise in payroll processes, tools, and metrics with a proven track record of building out and managing the entire end-to-end payroll process
  • Proven record of accomplishment in creating well-defined procedures and best practices to include compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Knowledge of SAP ERP systems
  • Experience in process ownership
  • Executive presence, judgment, and positive personal track record in leading in a dynamic organization
  • Dynamic and polished communication style and capability across all executive and management levels displaying executive presence, savvy, and collegiality
  • The highest of personal integrity, honesty, business ethics, and respect in dealing with people and organizations
