Summary
Oversees the financial operations of a medical group practice with a $625M annual operating budget, with direct financial accountability for multiple departments that report to the Dean of Clinical Affairs. This position may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. This position may be eligible to work hybrid within the Greater Houston, TX area after a training period.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the financial operations of the clinical mission managed operations including, annual budget, variance analysis, month-end processing and expense management.
- Advocates for and communicates high standards, holding staff and faculty accountable to Department/Center and College financial management policies.
- Manages departments HR responsibilities to align with college policies. Engages with College Human Resources leaders to enhance two-way communication and connect policy and programs with Department/Center application. Oversees workflow planning for the clinical mission.
- Oversees contract management including pharmaceuticals, infusion pricing, and centrally managed contracts such as the answering service and language line.
- Responsible for department budgets, forecasts, variance analysis for ambulatory operations, patient access, Baylor MedCare, business development areas, and diagnostic services.
- Responsible for SAP, Jaggaer and Concur department submission for final review and approval.
- Prepares journal vouchers and month-end entries.
- Final reviewer and approver for all department HR functions for new and replacement positions.
- Supports the Dean of Clinical Affairs and COO for Clinical for department financial goals and performance across the clinical enterprise.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.
Department-specific Requirements
- Medical Group Practice Finance Expertise
Demonstrated leadership in the financial management of large ambulatory or multi-specialty medical group practices. Knowledgeable of provider productivity models (e.g., RVUs), revenue cycle performance, payer contracting, reimbursement methodologies, diagnostic services, and clinic level financial operations. - Progressive Financial Leadership in Healthcare
Proven career progression into senior financial leadership roles within healthcare organizations, with a history of driving profitability, operational efficiency, and strategic financial transformation across physician enterprises. - Complex Budget Development and Oversight
Expertise in building, managing, and forecasting multi-site, multi-specialty budgets. Experience overseeing cost structures, capital planning, and financial performance across clinics, diagnostic services, and supporting departments. - Strategic Planning and Financial Analysis
Ability to lead long range financial planning, clinic-level performance analysis, scenario modeling, and data-driven strategy development to support organizational growth, physician alignment, and margin improvement. - Executive and Stakeholder Collaboration
Proven ability to partner with physician leaders, practice administrators, operations executives, and external payer partners to align financial strategy with clinical, operational, and organizational priorities. - ERP, Financial Systems and Analytics Proficiency
Strong command of healthcare financial systems, ERP platforms, business intelligence tools, and data analytics used to monitor provider performance, revenue cycle metrics, and operational KPIs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience will also be considered.
