The Director of Communications - Web Content will provide strategic leadership for the digital presence for Baylor College of Medicine, one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. The director will work closely with Communications, Marketing and IT teams to provide the best digital experience for all of the College’s audiences. With responsibility for three websites – two public websites and one internal site, the director will play an integral role in reaching patients, students, researchers, physicians and an internal audience of 15,000.

The Director reports to the VP, Communications and Community Outreach and will have four direct reports.

Job Duties

  • Plans, develops and executes communications plans for Web/Digital.
  • Supervises a team of content managers and SEO and Analytics experts, and works closely with others in the Office of Communications and Community Outreach and Information Technology who have content and technical roles for the websites.
  • Interacts on a regular basis with College leaders including department Chairs, Deans and Executive Leadership.
  • Ensures team members have professional development and training and clear direction on their responsibilities.
  • Develops and oversees procedures to regularly review and maintain content and accessibility on the websites.
  • Keeps updated on all CMS tools, SEO tactics and systems/platforms used for College websites.
  • Oversees the budget and business practices for Web/Digital team, working closely with Senior Business Manager.
  • Uses expert writing/editing skills to ensure clarity and accuracy of content.
  • Serves with other Communications and IT leaders on the College’s Digital Governance Committee.
  • Works with leaders across the College – in all mission areas – to resolve issues and make improvements in the College’s Digital Presence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree. Seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of Drupal and other CMS systems, web design, technical aspects of website function.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.
  • Must have writing for websites, digital platform experience.
