The Department of Medicine is recruiting an enthusiastic and reliable Director of Business Operations to lead the strategic direction of the sections of Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, and Nephrology to ensure the current and long-term business goals are met. This role will manage multiple managers and professionals. The Director will provide mentorship to the team across all missions and functional areas including research, education, clinical, and business operations. The Director will function as the dyad partner with the respective section chiefs to develop long-term strategic plans for each section.  This Director will be part of a small, elite team that makes strategic, operational, and financial decisions that determine the direction of one of the largest departments in the College.  


The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional leadership, management, and mentorship skills, ability to create and analyze operational data, and professional presentation abilities.  Specific experience in federal research administration and healthcare administration is necessary to ensure candidate success.


This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

Job Duties

  • Direct the daily operation of multiple sections including, but not limited to, areas of human resources, compliance and financial management.
  • Manage multiple teams led by managers and professionals, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Oversee financial management and accountability of multiple functions, to include budget administration, performing cost assessments, monitoring financial transactions, and financial reporting.
  • Make strategic decisions based on the financial data.
  • Develop staffing plans and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and department/unit needs.
  • Develop and implement successful strategies for revenue growth and expense control.
  • Negotiate and implement the human resources activities for the section, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions.
  • Create strategic partnerships to develop synergy between technology and business practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or similar field.
  • Certified Research Administrator.
  • History of progressively increasing responsibilities particularly in managing large financial portfolios and personnel management.
