Summary
This part-time Certified Diabetes Educator position in the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) / Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), Division of Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology for a research project that involves the use of insulin pumps in cystic fibrosis-related diabetes.
The Certified Diabetes Educator will train study participants on the use of insulin pumps, start them on the insulin pump, help troubleshoot any problems with the pump and review glucose data as needed after starting the pump.
The successful candidate will work with the principal investigators and research team to carry out the research project. The idea candidate is expected to be highly organized, keep detailed records, and display excellent verbal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Respectful, patient-centered interactions with patients, medical providers, and staff are expected at all times.
Research activities will take place at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in the Texas Medical Center location or virtually.
Job Duties
- Trains research participants on the use of insulin pumps.
- Starts the participants on the insulin pump.
- Conducts virtual visits with the participants to review glucose data and help troubleshoot any issues that might come up with the pump.
- Coordinates with the principal investigators and research team to carry out the study.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Certified as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience interacting with patients and families and/or experience in health care settings.
- Experience with culturally diverse children and families.
