Job Purpose


Data Integrity Specialist will manage the integrity of the enterprise master patient index (MPI), coordinate with users and leadership to reduce duplicate records, overlays, and perform actions to merge/unmerge records. This is an opportunity to establish standards within the College and improve the health of our MPI.

Job Duties
  • Maintains the accuracy and reliability and integrity of the Baylor electronic health record to ensure patient safety, HIPAA privacy and revenue integrity. Coordinates cleanup of all clinical and revenue systems that depend on the accuracy of this information.
  • Navigates multiple computer systems and applications to maintain the integrity of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to support patient care, patient safety, privacy, and revenue cycle operations.
  • Reviews potential duplicate reports/work-queues/lists and analyzes potential duplicate records identified within the EHR. Through analysis, determines the course of action required for each instance.
  • Merges patient data within established timelines and procedures to ensure accuracy
  • Reviews potential overlays of multiple patient data on a single record and through critical thinking, knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and medications, determines and performs the migration of information as needed.
  • Uses knowledge and experience to both assist in and perform chart correction activities with the EHR per established policies and procedures.
  • Works directly with OIT staff to develop EMR functionality to assist with identification and resolution of potential duplicates and overlays.
  • Works collaboratively with Office of Information Technology (OIT) team members, clinical operations, Patient Business Services (PBS), Compliance and Audit Services (HIPAA Privacy), Clinicians and other Departments to resolve and address compliance with data integrity, patient safety, billing, and privacy standards.
  • Identifies strategies to reduce potential duplicate records and errors.
  • Runs reports to provide feedback, statistics and graphs to various departments and individuals on the errors created and resolved to demonstrate improvement or the need for improvement in order to avoid future duplicates and/or medical record overlays.
Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.

Three years of relevant experience.
