Summary
The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is looking to recruit an enthusisastic and motivated Coordinator, Patient Support Services to schedule Gastroenterology endoscopy outpatient procedures. The position involves patient education and navigation through the patient's journey, including prepping patients for the procedure and scheduling the procedure with BCM & BSLMC EMR. The candidate will work closely with physicians and procedure schedules. The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated, and passionate about providing excellent customer service to our patients.
Job Duties
- Enters and maintains patient records, including orders for tests and required documentation.
- Schedules endoscopy GI procedures at BCM and BSLMC, ensuring timely scheduling for all referred patients.
- Manages the order work queue to select orders and schedule patients appropriately.
- Schedules clinic appointments as needed.
- Contacts patients with pre-procedure instructions and communicates date, time, and arrival details.
- Verifies and confirms patient identification, precautions, and vital information across all documentation.
- Acquires clinical notes prior to exams and performs cross-checks to prevent procedural or scheduling conflicts.
- Coordinates with referring providers and requests additional information when necessary.
- Corresponds with referring physicians and ensures referral loops are closed effectively and timely.
- Collaborates with the endoscopy care coordination team to optimize scheduling and fill procedure blocks.
- Works closely with physicians to accommodate special instructions, procedure locations, and required clearances.
- Communicates professionally and appropriately as outlined in the patient care manual.
- Provides administrative support for physicians as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Previous Epic experience.
- Prior experience working in a clinic.
