Summary

Coordinates day to day activities of the Genetics for Diabetes in Diverse Children study at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital (lead site) and communicates with other sites in this multicenter study.

 

Work is located in clinics, hospitals, and office areas at Texas Children's Hospital Main Campus, as well as Health Centers (e.g., West Campus, The Woodlands, etc.). Interaction with participants and their families, other employees, and investigators—both locally and at other study sites—is required.

 

This is a part-time position, with work hours scheduled within the standard working day.

 

 

Job Duties

  • Coordinates shipping of samples from TrialNet and NIDDK Repository to study laboratories.
  • Maintains logs and documents associated with the shipment of biological specimens.
  • Coordinates transfer of results from study laboratories to study biostatisticians and the TrialNet Data Coordinating Center.
  • Formats and deposits newly generated data in the NIDDK Repository.
  • Drafts data requests, edits per PI revisions, and sends to the TrialNet Data Coordinating Center.
  • Drafts progress reports to the study sponsor and edits per PI revisions.
  • Drafts presentations and abstracts for communication of results, edits per PI revisions, and assists with formatting and submission to conference portals.
  • Assists with manuscript writing, formatting, and submission to scientific journals.
  • Drafts communications of results to lay audiences, edits per PI revisions, and sends to appropriate outlets.
  • Communicates with other study sites regarding study activities and needs.
  • Coordinates study meetings.
  • Maintains and distributes study meeting minutes.
  • Presents updates on study progress—including sample and data acquisition and other study-related efforts—to other investigators.
  • Participates in discussions during weekly team meetings and network conference calls.
  • Maintains the lab website.
  • Performs all study-related activities according to procedures outlined in the study protocol, BCM/TCH regulations, best research practices, and ethical principles. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. No experience required with the preferred degree.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be comfortable calling families by phone, explaining all aspects of the study, and answering questions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Must have prior experience with computer spreadsheets and database management.
  • Experience with electronic health records is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with marketing via social media is preferred but not required.
